Street Works UK, the leading trade association representing utilities and contractors involved in street works across the UK, has announced its support for the Heroes Awards, reinforcing its commitment to recognising the people who go above and beyond across the sector.

Now in its sixth year, the Heroes Awards celebrate the courage, commitment and compassion shown by individuals working across the highways, utilities and infrastructure industries. The awards shine a spotlight on those whose actions—whether through acts of bravery, leadership, teamwork, safety advocacy or community support—have made a meaningful difference to colleagues, organisations and the public.

By becoming an official supporter, Street Works UK is helping to elevate the profile of the awards and encourage wider participation from across the street works and utilities community. The organisation has a long-standing commitment to celebrating excellence and professionalism within the sector, and its support of the Heroes Awards aligns closely with this mission.

Alicia Hibberts, Operations Director of the Heroes Awards, welcomed Street Works UK’s involvement, saying:

“Over the six years since we founded the Heroes Awards, we have heard so many heart-warming stories from across the sector, and the event has become something people actively seek out as an occasion they truly want to be part of. Expanding into a wider sector makes absolute sense, and having the support of organisations like Street Works UK will help us build a lasting legacy of recognition and create a culture where outstanding work and acts of human kindness are celebrated.”

Clive Bairstow, spokesperson for Street Works UK, said:

“The people working in street works and utilities play a vital role in keeping the country moving, often in challenging and demanding environments. We are proud to support the Heroes Awards and help recognise the individuals whose dedication, professionalism and compassion make a real difference every day. Recent winners from our community, such as Seema Flower and Gary Hawkins, exemplify the outstanding contribution our sector makes, and their stories inspire others across the industry.”

Nominations for the Heroes Awards are now open, giving organisations and individuals across the sector the opportunity to put forward colleagues whose actions, dedication and compassion truly stand out. Entries will close on 19 June, encouraging the industry to recognise and celebrate those unsung heroes whose contributions deserve national recognition.
